Welcome to Practical Perio. We are dedicated to providing the latest, most up to date and innovative dental training in Periodontics in the UK.
Practical periodontics covers a range of periodontal education for specialist, general dental practitioners and dental care professionals. All of our hygiene and dentist courses are taught by Matt Perkins, a registered specialist in periodontics and a full time, hands-on clinician. This ensures that you are educated by the highest qualified staff possible and all of our teaching works in a practical setting, ensuring that there is always a take home message that will change your clinical practice.
Whether you attend an evening seminar, or sign up for our full advanced periodontology course, we strive to both entertain and inform and know that you will come back for more.
Our style is informal, open and honest. Questions and debate are encouraged and there are no hidden mysteries and unanswered questions at the end of our sessions.

The format is similar to that used in full time specialist training programmes, and allows interaction between participants and the speaker. We have all sat in large lecture theatres listening to content that, frankly, baffles us. You don’t want to be the person that stands up and asks a ‘stupid’ question do you? Equally, at this point, you switch off completely which makes the whole exercise a complete waste of time.

Practical Perio lives up to its name. Matt presents and teaches in a very relaxed manner that puts you at ease. He encourages the group to ask questions and for you to draw from your own clinical experiences which results in a greater understanding and depth of learning.
I left feeling like I had had a day out with friends, rather than 7 hours of teaching!
On reflection, I left with lots of practical information, skills and knowledge that you could easily put into your everyday clinical practice.
I can highly recommend to anyone who is considering doing any of the modules not to hesitate because they are excellent value for money, and you will have a great time learning.

I had a look at my PDP , saw perio bottom of the sexy list, felt brain dead and booked 4 day course.
This wasn't just a tall hygienist in trousers talking mundane stuff! We were 8, a mixture of hygienists and dentists and from there on, pretty exciting.

Matthew is a specialist periodontist who dedicates his practice to periodontology and implant dentistry. He is a founder and director of the MODUS Advanced Dental Clinic in Coventry.
He is the founder of practicalperio.org which provides periodontal education to dental and medical professionals in the UK and abroad.
